November 6 - 10 (Exam Week)

NOTES FROM MR. CRAWFORD

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS……

Wednesday’s exciting victory put an exclamation point on our successful fall season and highlighted Hancock Day School’s excellent athletic program. Thank you coaches, players, families and especially Larry O’Hayer who provided the leadership developing this superior program.

Community Service
Please remember that students should complete ten hours of community service each school year. Service opportunities are advertised in the blog weekly. Additionally, if you know of any service opportunities that would be appropriate for our students, please feel free to send them to Ms. Ross so that they may be included here. Completed service hours should be documented on the Community Service Form and submitted to your child’s homeroom teacher.

MIDDLE SCHOOL EXAMS

As we approach the end of the trimester, our students and teachers are busy preparing for summative assessments (projects) and exams.  Students have either a summative assessment or an exam in each core class, and these grades will constitute 10% of your child’s final average for the trimester in each course.

Summative assessments are completed in class in the days leading up to our designated half-days for exams, and the exams themselves take place Thursday (11/9) and Friday (11/10).  Both Thursday and Friday are half-days for middle school students with a noon dismissal.  Extended care is NOT provided for middle school students.

Attendance is critical as we prepare for these major assignments.

The schedule for exams is below.

6th Grade
Thursday, 11/9 : English Language Arts Exam
Friday, 11/10:  Science and History Exams
(Students are completing in-class summative assessments for their Math and Spanish classes this trimester.)

7th Grade
Thursday, 11/9:  History Exam
Friday, 11/10:  English Language Arts and Math Exams
(Students are completing in-class summative assessments for their Science and Spanish classes this trimester.)

8th Grade
Thursday, 11/9:  Math and English Language Arts Exams
Friday, 11/10:  History and Science Exams
(Students are completing an in-class summative assessment for Spanish this trimester.)

Students should be taking advantage of study time provided, reviewing the resources given by their teachers, and coming in before/after school for extra help as needed.  By working together we are confident that we will end the trimester on a high note!
