This week has been a whirlwind, to say the least!  We had a discussion Tuesday about antibiotics and their effect on bacteria. In addition to that, we began our discussion about viruses and vaccines. Ironically, I came down with streptococcus pyogenes, also known as strep throat. Based on the name, your student should be able to tell you its shape and growth pattern! When they stain it, it shows up crystal violet! Is that Gram-positive or Gram-negative? This upcoming week, we will perform a lab where we will do a Gram stain study on the bacteria in milk. We will also begin our discussions on Cellular Transport which will culminate with another lab Friday, December 9. We will have a short quiz just before that lab, as well. Enjoy your weekend!

6th Grade Ancient Civilizations Mrs. Hannah
Sixth grade is enjoying learning about the Middle and New Kingdoms of Egypt! We will study important pharaohs, including King Tut,  in addition to analyzing Egyptian social classes. Students will identify economic and governmental structures in Egypt and relate them to modern day processes. Students should expect a quiz over the Middle and New Kingdoms toward the end of the week.

6th Grade Earth Science Mrs. Huennekens
Plate Tectonics is our focus! This is always fun because we have some cool lab explorations that involve food!  We've already had some great discussions about fossils and the different plant and animals that lived long ago! Students are encouraged to check Google Classroom on a daily basis, come see me for extra help and to review material covered in class nightly.

6th Grade Spanish Ms. Sotomayor
This coming week will be a review week on everything we’ve learned this trimester. We will work collaboratively to create our next newsletter, practice our conversational Spanish while recapping the election process on our new mascot, Spirit, and reviewing common vocabulary at the Thanksgiving table. It’s going to be a fun, engaging week where students get to apply all that they’ve learned while coming to the realization of how far they’ve come this trimester!

Ensemble Mrs. Cookson
This week we practiced a little more story analysis. I also learned a bit more about each student as they got up in front of the class to tell a personal story; they had to concentrate on explaining details and building the scene. Next week we will work on group storytelling.

Art Mrs. Cookson
The students continued exploring challenges this week in art.
6th - Finished up tessellations and started to add color.
7th - We reviewed figure as well as gesture drawing skills and put them to work on final sketches for our 3D sculptures to start next week.
8th - The graffiti names are coming along; all students are up to speed with having them written out. Next week we will start to add colors.
