WORDS FROM THE MIDDLE SCHOOL DIRECTOR
Our trip to Second Harvest is Tuesday! Thank you to all who have contributed!
REMEMBERING
As
I write this, I remember that 50 years ago today I was sitting in junior
English when the announcement came that President Kennedy was shot and I was
sitting in Chemistry when it was announced he died. A stark reminder about how fragile life is
and how much we have to be thankful for this season.
CARPOOL
Carpool has
gotten noticeably crowded the past few days. We ask that if you are a middle
school parent picking up your child in the white zone, please arrive no
earlier than 3:10. This is to maintain an efficient carpool system and
most importantly, ensure the safety of our kids.
When driving
on campus, please REFRAIN FROM CELL PHONE USE. There are literally hundreds of studies that show distracted driving
causes accidents. Help us protect your child!
NEXT WEEK’S SCHEDULE
Next week we
will be having a special schedule on both Monday and Tuesday. Monday morning the school will be practicing
from 8:30 – 9:30 for our Christmas Concert.
From 9:30 – 10:30 students from Savannah Country Day School will present
a program on making choices to our students. From 10:30 – 1:00 we will hold abbreviated classes. AT 1:00 WE FEAST! Just a reminder that the feast is being catered this year so you do not need to bring food. We do, however, need paper products (cups, plates) and cutlery. Please contact Nella Maxwell if you would like to help supply something. At 2:00 there will be a special speaker
talking about Social Media safety. Dismissal at normal time.
Tuesday we
will be loading canned goods at 8:15 for our departure to Second Harvest. Half the students will go to Second Harvest
at 9:00 and the other half at 10:30. The
other portion of the morning will be spent at Fort Jackson participating in a
history program. Lunch will be at the
Fort with a return to HDS at 1:30. If your child participates in boxed lunch, they will receive their lunch. If not, please pack a lunch for your child.
DISMISSAL ON TUESDAY IS AT 1:30. PLEASE PLAN ON PICKING UP YOUR
CHILD AT THAT TIME. FOR THOSE WHO CAN’T
MAKE THAT PICK UP TIME, CONTACT MS. EDIE (redie@hancockdayschool.org or 351-4500) and we will make arrangements to provide a structured time
until normal pick up at 3:15.
DECEMBER!
December
will be a busy time finishing up our first semester work. There will be lots to cover and many
assessments during this time. ATTENDANCE
THESE THREE WEEKS IS CRITICAL! There
will many review sessions preparing for quizzes, exams and the culminating
first semester final examination. Those
missing school will be at a distinct disadvantage. The final day of exams will be Friday,
December 20th. Again, it is
critical to be here until the final “bell” to have the best opportunity to
succeed. Thursday and Friday, December
19th and 20th are half days of school.
NEXT WEEK’S BLOG
We
will post a blog on Tuesday that will include teacher assignments for the week
of December 2nd.
HAVE A SAVE AND THANKFUL HOLIDAY!
